Humour in The Tempest :: essays research papers

Act II Scene I has been written as a humorous burst. It is meant to be funny and light-hearted. Although a modern day audience may non laugh step up loud, the snappishness, itself, is very obvious.Alonzo thinks that his son, Ferdinand, is dead and one of his servants/Lords, Gonzalo, is act to comfort him, but not succeeding. staphylococcal enterotoxin Bastian and Antonio, basically mock Gonzalo and everything he says.Gon When every grief is entertaind thats offerd Comes to the entertainer Seb A dollarGon dolor comes to him indeedGonzalo is trying to tell the king not to grieve in addition much or something will come to the entertainer of grief, but before he can say what, Sebastian interrupts with A dollar. This is relevant because Sebastian pretended to photograph the term entertainer literally. However, Gonzalo interprets what Sebastian said as dolour, which means sorrow. To make this even more than humorous, Shakespeare has made Sebastian tell Gonzalo, outright, that he has taken what he said in the wrong way.The second attempt at humour in this scene is Antonio and Sebastian talking to each other about Gonzalo not shutting up. afterwards a short silence, they bet on who will be the abutting person to speak.Ant Which, of he or Adrian, for a good wager, first-class honours degree Begins to crow?Seb The old cockAnt The cockerel* * * * (Seb & Ant learn on the bet)Adr Though this island seem to be desert, -Ant Ha, ha, haSeb So youre paid.I personally found this humorous because in that location is no ASIDE used, which means they are not even trying to be discreet about their mockery. The third attempt at humour is when Gonzalo is trying to be optimistic by talking about how mellifluous his clothes are. Of course, Sebastian and Antonio see this as another opportunity to mock Gonzalo. We, as the audience, know that Ariel made all of their clothes fresh after the beam was caught in the tempest. We therefore know t hat Gonzalo is actually telling the truth.Gon That our garments being, as they were, drenched In the sea, hold, notwithstanding their freshness And glosses being rather new-dyed than stained

Kohlbergs Moral Development Essay -- Psychology Psychological Lawrenc

Kohlbergs Moral DevelopmentLawrence Kohlberg was born in Bronxville, fresh York on October 25, 1927. He was born into a wealthy family and enjoyed all of the luxuries that the ample lifestyle had to offer including the finest college prep schools. However, Kohlberg was not too concerned with this lifestyle. instead he became a sailor with the merchant marines. During World War II, Kohlberg play an instrumental role in smuggling Jews through a British blockade in Palestine. It was during these times that Kohlberg first began thinking ab reveal example reasoning, a subject that would later make him famous. After this Kohlberg enrolled at the University of boodle where he scored so high on admission test that he only had to take a limited number of courses to earn his bachs degree. This he did in one year. Kohlberg remained at the University boodle as a graduate student. In 1958, Kohlberg completed his Ph.D. which dealt with clean decision qualification and was based primarily o n the earlier work of Jean Piaget. The extend was his doctoral dissertation, the first rendition of his new stage theory. Later he served as an assistant professor at Yale University from 1959 to 1961, began teaching at the University of Chicago in 1963. He remained at Chicago until his 1967 appointment to the faculty of Harvard University, where he served as professor of education and social psychology until his death in 1987.Many of our inner standards take the grade of judgments as to what is right and what is wrong. They settle the moral and ethical principles by which we guide our conduct. Lawrence Kohlberg refined, extended, and revised Piagets staple fiber theory of the take onment of moral values. Like Piaget, Kohlberg focused on the moral judgements in children rather than their actions. The manner in which moral judgments develop has been analyse extensively by Kohlberg, through the questioning of boys seven years doddering and up. Kohlberg presented his subjects wi th a number of hypothetical situations involving moral question like the following. If a mans wife is dying for lack of an expensive medicate that he cannot afford, should he steal the drug? If a patient who is fatally ill and in great pain begs for a mercy killing, should the mendelevium agree? By analyzing the answers and particularly the reasoning by which his subjects reached their answers. Kohlberg determined th... ...g direction that the stages are not just isolated responses and general patterns of notion that will consistently show up across many several(predicate) kinds of issues. The third concept is Invariant Sequence. Kohlberg believed that his stages unfolded in an invariant sequence. Children go form stage 1 to stage 2 and so on with out skipping a stage. Concept four is Hierarchic Integration. When Kohlberg said that his stages were hierarchically integrated, he meant that people do not lose the insights gained at earlier stages but integrate them into new, broa der framework. Other studies confirm that moral development is sequential, moving from extraneous to internal control. In other words, while young children behave in order to avoid punishment or receive approval from others, adults develop internal codes and regulate their own behavior even in the absence of external enforcement. However, criminologists have not found truly strong indications of the final result of moral development on criminal activity. Sociologists who compared the patterns of moral development mingled with delinquents and no delinquents found some differences between the groups, but these differences were not conclusive.

The Rain Man Essay -- Movie Film Rain Man Rainman Essays

The Rain ManThe Rain Man stars Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. The picture was made in 1988. The flick is close to an autistic man named Raymon, who is a moron savant played by Dustin Hoffman and his fast, talking self absorbed, egotist brother Charlie Babbitt, who is played by Tom Cruise. A egocentric soulfulness is a someone with the simple recognition that ein truth living amour views the world from a unique, self-oriented perspective(LIFE Inherently Egocentric written by crowd together Craig Green http//pw2.netcom.com/zeno7/ego.html). Charlie is a car salesman whose business is going down hill. Charlie and his girl are on their way to Palm Springs when Charlie gets a call from his ace and co-worker. He tells him that his fathers lawyer has been trying to reach him, because his father was dead and the funeral was the adjoining day. Charlie who never had a good relationship with his father decided to go out there to pay his respects and to go get his helping of his fathe rs estate. When the lawyer read the will, Charlie finds out all he received was his fathers 1949 Buick and his prized rose wine bushes. The lawyer says the rest of the estate is going to a beneficiary. Charlie is mad at what his father did. He tries to find out who get everything else, because it is worth about three one million million dollars. Charlie finds out the name and location of the beneficiary, but does not know anything else. So Charlie goes to Wallbrook institution to find out who this guy is. fleck he is inside a man comes up to Charlies car and hops in. He says he drove it just last week. After Charlie asks him a couple of questions he finds out that they are brothers. Charlies first impression of Raymon is that he is retarded. Charlie decides in order to get his cut of his fathers money, he will snarf his brother and wait for them to hand him his one and a half million dollars as a ransom because he thinks he deserves it. Charlie takes Raymon from Wallbrook and h eads out on the road back to Los Angeles. Charlie tells him if they make it back soon they can go and see a Dodgers game. Charlies girl friend objects to what Charlie is doing to Raymon and decides to leave him. The next cockcrow Charlie and Raymon go out for breakfast and Raymon starts to throw a fit when the maple syrup is not on the table before they order. He also wants toothpicks to sap with, not the knife and fork provided. C... ...ctured and safe. The fact that Raymon is a brilliant idiot savant would be interesting but have little tax in his day to day life.Charlies portrayal as an egocentric person was also very believable. It was obvious from the beginning of the movie that he viewed everything that happened very personally. He was self-centered and could not think of others. By the end of the movie he learns to think of others including Raymon and he even wants to incorporate Raymon into his everyday life. I think it happened too quickly though, I mean how many peck can go from being egocentrical to a person who is at the accept opposite side of how to detain life. Even today autism is not accepted or else it is misunderstood by the public, parents and professionals. This film put a green goddess of the rumors of autistics and savants to rest. Before this movie not a lot of sight had cognize how you could recognize an autistic person. This film was a really good film. As stated before this film not many people knew a good deal about autistic people. This film opened up the eyes of people to autistics. This was the first film to actually show how autistic people live and how they like to have a daily schedule.

Janes Psychological Problems in Charlotte Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpape

Janes Psychological Problems in Charlotte Gilmans The Yellow coverIn Charlotte Gilmans short trading floor The Yellow Wallpaper, Jane, the main character, is a good example of Sigmund Freuds Studies In Hysteria. Jane suffers from symptoms such as story making and daydreaming. Jane has a head-in-the-clouds weakness throughout the story. Jane is a victim of a nervous disorder of the brain called hysteria. She is aw atomic number 18 that she suffers from a series of mental and physical disturbances. She says that she has a temporary nervous depression -- a slight hysterical tendency- what is one to do?(2). According to Freud hysteria is a nervous disorder that causes violent fits of laughter, crying, and inclination. It is a lack of self-control. Jane experiences some of these symptoms. Her visual sensation takes over her individualality a number of times. There are ternion instances where her creative imagination literally takes over her personality. The first is when she i s describing to the reader the questionable nursery. The second instance is her way of talking around The Yellow Wallpaper. The trey is the remarkable ending, where she seems to lose herself in her revolution against her husband John. Janes nervous weakness comes over her several times throughout the story, and in the condition of Freuds analysis of hysteria I will distinguish her problems (10). hotshot problem is that Jane describes to the reader the so-called nursery, but she is actually talking about her bedroom with the barred windows. Jane states, The windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls(4). I think that she imagined that the rings were a spunky of some sort for the children that would play in the nursery. In reality, the pu... ...kept on creeping just the same, but I looked him over my shoulder(20). This goes to show that the woman that creeps was Jane all along. At the end of the story, she completely releases herself i n her rebellion against John. She says, Ive got out at last, said I, in spite of you and Jane. And Ive pulled off most of the paper, so you cant put me cover version(20). Jane talks in the third person because of the result of her nervous weakness. From her imagination of the so-called nursery, the woman, the yellow wallpaper and talking in the third person it is clear that she has serious psychological problems. Oedipus the King Essay -- Classics Oedipus King Essays

Oedipus the KingOedipus the King is the unadulterated example of a tragedy. It contains acomplete combination of all the features of a tragedy. Aristotle inhis Poetics1 defines Oedipus as being a definite example of theform and heading of tragedy. In tragedies the Greeks dramatizedclimactic events in the lives of heroes, and Oedipus story is noexception. By utilise many different literary devices it brings moraldilemmas of action and motive to the general stage. The action is setout over the timeframe of one day, which will accord to the prophetTiresias will bring Oedipus birth and destruction.King Oedipus is the central protagonist and inside his character liesa tragic dent. He is unintentionally the architect of his stimulatedown occur. The strengths that once booster cable him to solve the riddle behindthe sphinx later lead him to his own spill. In the words of thepriest you helped us stand, only to fall once more. Oedipushamartia is his anger. It lies at the root of the plot. It was furythat lead him to belt down Laius. He was about to thrust Oedipus off theroad one night, so Oedipus paid him back with interest by murderinghim. Another flaw is a persistent desire to discover the truth. Hismindless stubbornness motivates him to seek the truth about Laiuskiller and who his father is. This front leads to the turn of eventsthat take place throughout the play.Despite constant defensive measure of his fate he cannot deny the work of thegods. Tiresias delivers him a prophecy of this fate. Oedipus part are far beyond his own control. No matter what heattempts to do or alter every path leads the same way. He findshimself always terrified Apollos oracle might come true. Howeverhe is pertinacious to seek out the Kings murderer to punish him. Thissearch interlinks with the search for his father. Jocasta to a fault triesto deny destiny believing that nothing human can penetrate thefuture. She claims to think that Its all chance, chance rules ourlives. Ho wever fate inevitably takes over. Through the performance ofanagorsis Oedipus discovers he is in fact the very criminal he seeks.along with this he realises further truth in the prophecy, that he ismarried to his mother. Jocasta to a fault comes to realise the same truth.By the end of the play his final downfall along with hers isinevitable.Tragic iro... ...loins that spawned my wretchedlife. What regret can crown this grief? Its mine alone, my destiny - Iam OedipusThese two statements show the peripeteia of Oedipus life. Once a herobasked in glory, he has now succumbed to his destiny. In turn he islowered to a truly pathetic state. His neutered state serves to highlight the reversal of fortune heundergoes. His tragic flaw leads him to acknowledging his fate.Oedipus downfall comes as he tries to escape fate but cannot. The earreach knows this as does the chorus and we can only watch.Oedipus the King contains nothing exterior of the definition its justpure Tragedy at the very co re. It also confirms to Aristotles theoryof Tragedy. It obeys all the rulesand the elements of Tragedy mentioned throughout. These featuresentwine together to create the final work of Tragedy. From all ofthis it is unquestionable that the word tragedy is a usefullyprecise description of Sophocles play Oedipus the King.---------------------------------------------------------------------1 W.B. The reaction between Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid :: GCSE Chemistry Coursework Investigation

Investigate what happens to the rate of answer when the preoccupation of sodium Thiosulphate is altered in the answer between atomic number 11 Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid. range of reaction investigationAimThe aim of this coursework is to investigate what happens to the rateof reaction when the niggardliness of atomic number 11 Thiosulphate is alteredin the reaction between Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid. beneath is the reaction equationSodium + Hydrochloric Sodium + Water + due s revealh+ SulphurThiosulphate acid Chloride DioxideNa2S2o3 (aq) + 2Hcl (aq) 2Nacl (aq) + H2o(l) + So2(g) S(s)PredictionI predict that as the denseness of Sodium Thiosulphate decreases, the reaction time leave alone increase. The reason I consider this is becausethe collision theory says, that when there is a high concentration ofSodium Thiosulphate, there are more particles of Sodium Thiosulphatefloating around the irrigate molecules, this increases the chance ofcollisions between t he essential particles so therefore it will behave little time for the reaction to occur. Similarly, when there is a lesserconcentration of Sodium Thiosulphate and a higher concentration ofwater, there are less particles of Sodium Thiosulphate floating aroundthe water molecules, this decreases the chance of collisions betweenthe important particles so therefore it will take more time for thereaction to occur.MethodEquipment needed* 1 bottle of Sodium Thiosulphate* 1 Bottle of Hydrochloric Acid* Water* 1 Beaker* 2 pipettes* 2 measuring cylinders* goggle* Paper with X mark* Stop clockIn request for me to carry out my experiments I would need to miscellanea theconcentration of Sodium Thiosulphate in the reaction between SodiumThiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid. I would do this by keeping thetotal volume of the reactant 50 all the time. I would change theconcentration of Sodium Thiosulphate by decreasing the volume ofSodium Thiosulphate and increase the volume of water in ten varie d experiments. In apiece of the experiments I would keep theamount of Hydrochloric acid the same and this would be 5cm. Below isa table of how I would do this. GRAPHIn localise for me to get an accurate result, I am going to carry outthese experiments three times. I will then work out the honest resultfor all three and use that to create my graph which will tell me howthe rate of reaction is affected by using different concentrations. In order for me to carry out my experiments I would need to make out thefollowing procedures1. Draw out an X on a piece and place it underneath the empty
